Its a learning Curve

Its been a busy couple of days and ive added a few new items to my shop .

Chalk board sign

really loving this and very pleased with the result  again ive been using barrel staves which at the moment are my preferred choice of material and i cant see that changing anytime soon.

It looks beautiful and i can see this hanging in pubs or restaurants or even the dining room of your home.

Running on from that theme how about this for an ideaupcycled wood i think the rope edges sets it off a treat.

Next again using the oak staves a very simple but effective item a plant hook

But ive saved the one im most pleased with until last, Created from an oak whisky barrel lid i created a beautiful cheese and wine board . It started off as quite a rough lid

This took a bit of work and to set it off we also printed a grape , wine and cheese motif onto the board, This was quite a clever little trick which my wife Jane discovered on you tube. First we take a sheet of address labels and remove all the labels , you should be left with a glossy sheet of paper , insert this into your printer and print your required design from your art package . Carefully remove the sheet after it has printed . The ink will still be wet so take great care with it . Carefully lay the print onto the wood surface and smooth  it down with a dry soft cloth. the ink will transfer from the paper to the wood . Allow to dry then polish simple effective and will work even with a photograph image.

ever onward

The whiskey Barrel staves arrived as i previously mentioned and in all honesty were a little damp to do much with, I have started on a table or will it be a clock ….not decided yet but in the mean time i managed to create some very simple single tea light holders

Its a pleasure working with this wood the aroma of whiskey defiantly drifts up as i drill and sand the wood and i love the way the wood has a naive charm the grain of the wood is bought out beautifully by the use of danish oil , but all the dinks and dents and black stain is still there from its previous life as a barrel and gives it a rustic charm, i hope you agree.

Ok so not strictly reclaimed wood

Ok so its not strictly reclaimed wood perhaps i should change the section on my website to upcycled but anyway , Just thought id pop on to show you these new chalk bottles we now have on site chalk bottle good eh!

ok so we had to drink a fair bit to get stock (every cloud and all that) but lovingly painted by ourselves with a stick of chalk attached by twine to each bottle you can leave messages or silly quotes, anything really.

But heres a great idea and its just a thought but why not place one of these bottles on each table of a wedding reception and guests can sign their name now come on thats gotta be a classy idea …… hasnt it?

More reclaimed wood

Making these ornaments is quite therapeutic working with old oak barrel staves, sanding them down, seeing the grain come to life as i apply the danish oil even the smell of the wine which wafts up from the inner of the stave, it really is quite enjoyable.

We have added a few more items since my last entry

double stave candle holder

this is our double stave 5 tea light holder a bit of a take on the original design but using the underside of the stave this time . The dark red colouring is from the wine which was once contained in the oak barrels .

sconce

and a wall sconce too again using the deep red coloured side from the stained oak simple but effective.

Coming soon clocks and mirrors keep watching .
